Height and weight are measurements
that tell us that our body is developing and growing with age. Sex, race, food,
genetic inheritance and illnesses are some of the factors that will affect your
body's development and growth.
In this unit we are going to measure
how tall you and also how much do you weigh. Then, we are going to calculate
your Body Mass Index (BMI).
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure
of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. BMI
is a person's weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters.
A high BMI can be an indicator of
high body fatness. BMI can be used to screen for weight categories that may
lead to health problems but it is not diagnostic of the body fatness or health
of an individual.
